Mortars and concretes were modelled as three-phase composites consisting of the aggregate, bulk 14 cement paste and an inhomogeneous ITZ. The latter was divided into a series of homogenous concentric shell 15 elements of equal thickness. The initial porosity and cement gradients at the ITZ were first estimated from the 16 overall water/cement ratio ( c w / 0 ). The evolution of the porosity, solid hydration products and remnants of 17

Pseudo Steady State Gas Flow in Tight Reservoir under Dual Mechanism Flow

Gas reservoirs with low permeability (k<0.1 mD) are among the unconventional reservoirs and are commonly termed as "Tight Gas Reservoirs". In conventional gas reservoirs that have high permeability, the flow of gas is basically controlled by the reservoir permeability and it is calculated using the Darcy equation. In these reservoirs, gas flow due to gas diffusion is ignored compared to Dar...

Influence of cement content on concrete performance in corrosive environments (sea water)

In this study, the effect of cement content on concrete performance in corrosive environments is investigated on concrete mixtures having the same water/cement (w/c) ratio. Three w/c ratios (0.40, 0.45 and 0.50) were used and for each w/c ratio three mixtures were prepared with cement contents 350, 400 and 450 kg/m3. The compressive strength, electrical resistivity and chloride diffusivity of t...

Prediction of Service Life in Concrete Structures based on Diffusion Model in a Marine Environment using Mesh Free, FEM and FDM Approaches

Chloride-induced corrosion is a key factor in the premature corrosion of concrete structures exposed to a marine environment. Fick's second law of diffusion is the dominant equation to model diffusion of chloride ions. This equation is traditionally solved by Finite Element Method (FEM) and Finite Difference Method (FDM). Although these methods are robust and efficient, they may face some numer...
